Chisinau International Airport is a smaller airport in Chisinau, Moldova in Eastern Europe. The airport has a capacity of 1,200,000 passengers per year.

In January 2004, the airport received and sent 26,775 passengers, which is an 45% increase compared to the similar period in the year 2003 (18,456 passengers).

Cargo and mail transported in January 2004 constituted 84.6 tons. Of the passengers, 25,616 (or 95.7%) were carried on regular flights, and 1,159 (4.3%) on charter flights.

In January 2004, five national companies were involved in passenger air transportation, namely: Air Moldova, Moldavian Airlines, Tandem Aero, Aeriantur-M and Vichi, in total having carried 19,033 passengers, which represents 72% of the total number of passengers carried.

Among the national air companies, the biggest share of passenger transport market is held by the state airline Air Moldova, with 55% or 14,761 passengers carried, followed by Moldavian Airlines with 13% or 3,464 passengers, the rest of national companies taking only 3% of the total number of passengers.

Besides national companies, a number of foreign airlines have been active on the passenger air transport market. These include Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Tarom, Carpatair, Transaero and South Airlines.

Such foreign airlines have carried 7,425 passengers, which represent 28% of the total passenger traffic. The largest share of transports was held by Carpatair with 9.2% or 2,458 passengers, Turkish Airlines with 8.4% or 2,243 passengers and Austrian Airlines with 5,9% or 1,568 passengers.
