Copenhagen International Airport

Basics
The airport is located six miles (10 km) southeast of downtown Copenhagen. An information desk in the arrivals hall is open from 6 A.M. to 10 P.M. daily. As for the Web site, it's recently been updated and has some fancy features, including:

  • Up-to-date flight information on departures and arrivals
  • Maps of terminals and other facilities
  • A neat-o air travel planner--customize your trip based on the city of departure

Taxi
There are plenty of taxis outside the arrivals hall. Fare to the center of town is about 130 krone ($18). The trip takes about 20 minutes in average traffic.

Bus
SAS airport buses are available outside the terminal, and leave every 15 minutes during the day. They go to the SAS Scandinavia Hotel and the main railway station. Travel time is about 25 minutes. Tickets are about 30 krone ($5) for a one-way trip.

Rental Car
Major European rental car firms have counters at the airport. As with many European cities, a rental car isn't recommended if you are only visiting the central district. Parking is difficult to find and taxis, buses, and S-trains are more convenient ways to get around the city.

Hydrofoil
High-speed boat service is available from the airport to Malmo, Sweden. Contact the SAS information desk for price and booking details.

Airport Facts

Copenhagen Airport (IATA: CPH, ICAO: EKCH) (Københavns Lufthavn, Kastrup in Danish) is the major airport serving Copenhagen, Denmark, located 8 km south of the city center on the island Amager. The airport lies mainly in the municipality of Tårnby, with a small portion in neighboring Dragør. The airport is one of two main hubs for Scandinavian Airlines System. Copenhagen Airport serves about 50,000 passengers per day. 19 million passengers passed through the facility in 2004. A train station, opened in 2000, is located directly beneath the arrival hall. Also a Copenhagen Metro station is planned to be in operation by 2007.

Malmö-Sturup Airport (MMX), east of Malmö, serves as a secondary airport for Copenhagen and Malmö.

Copenhagen Airport was originally called
Kastrup Airport, since it is located in the small town of Kastrup, now a part of Tårnby. The latter name is still in use. Copenhagen Airports A/S own a 49% stake in Newcastle Airport.

The airport has 1700 employees, and has a maximum capacity of 83 loadings/hour, with room for 108 airplanes.
