Granada Airport
Granada Airport, situated in the Vega del Genil region 17 kilometres outside the city, mainly handles scheduled flights to Barcelona and Madrid and therefore plays a key role in the socio-economic development of Granada and its area of influence: the Granada province, Jaén and the south-east of the Cordoba province.
At present, the airport has a single runway, 2,900 by 45 metres and a 90,350-square metre apron with twenty-five aircraft stands, of which eleven are for commercial planes. The passenger terminal has a surface area of 5,116 square metres and comprises the departures and arrivals zones, a cafeteria and restaurant, the VIP lounge, car hire offices and other services.
In 2003 Granada handled a total of 525,870 passengers, mainly concentrated over the Easter period and the summer months. By contrast, the majority of aircraft operations, which reached a total of 12,804 last year, take place in December, January and March. The airport also handled 101,2 tons of cargo.
