Additional Information: In July 1995, the supervisory board approved plans to extend the airline passenger building by adding a third terminal. Construction work began in March 1996 and the project went into service in 1998. The new terminal is based on the proven triangular Hannover system, in order to offer the advantages of short distances and functional clarity by separating arriving and departing passengers. The existing terminals and the extension with eight additional flight gates should make it possible to process seven to eight million passengers annually. The new terminal covers an area larger than terminals A & B. A subway station connects Hannover Airport with the central railway station and the exhibition grounds. Future projects will include extensions to the airfield, parking areas, the infrastructure and the freight building as well as constructional changes to the taxi-way system.
