La Coruna Airport
Over the past decade A Coruņa airport has seen an increase in the number of passengers through its terminal, up to 654,000 in the year 2001. After experiencing a drop during 2002, passenger traffic increased in 2003 by 3.3%. Passenger traffic is predominantly domestic, more than 98 per cent of the total commercial traffic in the airport.
The airport has a runway with its respective safety strips, two straight exit paths and turning loops at both departure points. The airfield's capacity is twelve maneuvers per hour. There is also a platform that has parking for four type C aircraft.
A Coruņa has a passenger terminal building where the entire domestic and international traffic is received, as well as the general and military traffic. Since 2001, it has had a freight terminal building on a plot of land next to the helicopter hangar on the earth side, with access from the south of the apron.
The A Coruņa Master Plan includes a series of measures that aim to gradually absorb the forecast growth in traffic. Some, such as the expansion of the passenger terminal, with the installation of airbridges and the extension of the aircraft apron, have already been implemented and are in service. The Master Plan also foresees the extension of the runway by 500 metres and the construction of a taxiway, the expansion of the car park, the extension of the southern apron and the relocating of the fuel plot, with a surface area of 4,000 square metres.
