Airport Facts

Valladolid Airport, which is located within the town limits of Villanubla, a town near the city, has become one of the main transport bases for passengers in Castilla y Leon since upgrading its terminal area in 2000. Over the last few years the Valladolid Airport has witnessed a significant rise in passenger numbers, especially on tourist and pleasure flights, due to the arrival of low-cost airlines. Passenger traffic grew by 90.2 percent in 2004. Valladolid has much to offer in terms of culture (the National Museum of Sculpture, the International Film Week and the Holy Week processions) and has also become a key logistics centre, both for the traditional sector of agriculture as well for the industrial and services sectors.

With the aim of providing a quality service, Aena extended Villanubla Airport between 1998 and 2000 and it is now able to absorb the traffic demand forecast for the next few years.

The new passenger terminal building is characterised by its clean, functional design, which is translated into generous, highly aesthetic spaces. The runway, the 05-23, measures 3,000 by 60 metres, which enables it to handle all kinds of aircraft. The adaptation of the runway provided a great technical and operating challenge and was the first time that Aena had used concrete for its runways.

This airport is an air base open to civil traffic, as stipulated by Royal Decree 1167/1995 of 7 July on the regulations pertaining to the use of aerodromes jointly as air bases and airports or as air bases open to civil traffic. It has housed Wing 37 of the Spanish Air Force since 1974.
