Airport Facts
Vigo Airport is located within the city limits of Mos, Redondela and Vigo, in the province of Pontevedra, nine kilometres from the center of Vigo and 28 from the provincial capital. Its area of influence covers the province of Pontevedra, part of the province of Orense and the north of Portugal.
The airport, classified as category two, has a single runway measuring 2,400 by 45 metres and a 49,560 square metre apron, 900 of which correspond to a heliport. The passenger terminal, which cover 7,500 square metres, occupies two floors in the main building and includes the arrivals and departures areas, restaurants, shops, services and administrative offices. The airport also has a control tower, a cargo terminal, a fire and rescue building, a transmitter centre, a general aviation area and a power plant.
Traffic at the Vigo Airport consists primarily of commercial flights, most of which are domestic or european (Schengen community). Other international flights are channeled through Madrid, where passengers generally change planes and go through passport control.
In 2004, the Vigo Airport managed 911,975 passengers, 15,458 aircraft movements and 1,029 tonnes of cargo. These figures place it in the 22nd position by traffic volume among Spanish airports. To satisfy this increase in demand, the approaching instrumental system has been adapted to category II/III.
