Zagreb International Airport

Basics
The airport is located 10 miles (16 km) southeast of the center of Zagreb. Open 24-hours a day, the information desk is located next to the International Departure and Domestic Arrivals. The airport's Web site is a spirited work-in-progress. On it you will find:

  • Information and schedules on buses, taxis and car rentals
  • Links to airlines serving the airport
  • A flight schedule

Taxi
Taxis are available directly outside of arrivals. The fare from the airport to downtown Zagreb is always open to negotiation, but is currently from about 31-39 kuna ($18-21), maybe a little less if you bargain. Make sure you agree on the fare before departing. Travel time about 25 minutes to the city center hotels.

Hotel Limousine
An alternative, if you are staying at one of the major hotels such as the Intercontinental, or Esplanade, is to call them ahead of your arrival to book an airport transfer. Call the guest relations desk to book the limousine. They will pick you up at the airport in the hotel limousine, or a hotel taxi. The cost is less than a taxi, about 150 kuna ($32), and as a convenience the fare is added to your hotel bill.

Bus
Croatia Airlines provides a good bus service from the airport to the Central Bus Terminal, where the Croatia Airlines City Terminal is located. From the bus terminal it is a short taxi ride to the central city hotels. If you're traveling light, the Esplanade Hotel is about a 20-minute walk from the terminal.

The buses run from 7 A.M. to 8 P.M. daily, every 1/2 hour in the morning and evening peak times, and hourly at other times. The fare is 21 kuna ($3), so it's a bargain compared to taxi fare, and the travel time is the same as a taxi, about 25 minutes. Taxi fare to the central hotels from the bus stop will be about 20 to 30 kuna ($4 to $6).

Rental Car
ACM, All Car, Avis, Budget, Europcar (Interrent), Hertz, INA, Odisea, Unirent, and Ve-Mo have facilities in Zagreb. If you are only working or visiting in central Zagreb, a car is not needed. Many places of interest are within walking distance, and the hotels have taxis available. Both of the main hotels, the Esplanade and Intercontinental, are a pleasurable walking distance to the central square.
