Aircraft and Runways
The St. John's International Airport is served by one mainline air carrier (Air Canada) and a number of regional and charter carriers. Air Saint Pierre also provides a scheduled air service to St. Pierre, France.

There is a designated general aviation area with activity consisting of flight training, charter service, government and military operations, corporate aviation and Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA). Fixed base operators include Aeroflight Holdings, Shell Canada, Irving Aviation, PLH Aviation, and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador providing service to their own aircraft.

Despite the prevailing notion that the airport suffers from frequent foggy periods and changeable wind conditions, a 1985 study of weather related runway usability showed a very high rate of 98.3% (the national average is 97.13%). Based on this information, Transport Canada concluded that the current runway configuration is optimal for the long term.
